November
6th 2002 – Bridgetown, Barbados
Cariaccess Communications and Sunbeach
Communications have signed letters of intent to merge.
Telecommunications in all of its forms
is widely regarded as being one
of the most important industries that the Caribbean needs
to focus on
as it grows and expands into the 21st Century.
Two telecom companies at the forefront
of this effort have been
Internet Service Providers Sunbeach Communications and Cariaccess
Communications both based in Barbados, along with Cariaccess'
operations in St Lucia and St Vincent.
The road to telecom deregulation is never
easy and is fraught with
obstacles of all kinds, and in these small islands, it is
also
recognised that strength will lie in numbers as more and more
telecom
services are deregulated.
Strengths in human resources, customer
base sizes and good technical
know-how and management are always a challenge.
Both Sunbeach and Cariaccess have recognised
that to properly face the
bright future and bring a full range of telecom services at
value for
money pricing and with features only dreamed about in these
parts, they
should do this together.
Sunbeach is considered a pioneer in the
development of Internet
services in Barbados and Cariaccess starting out a few years
after, has
built up a loyal and happy team of customers and staff.
The Management of both companies
look forward to the challenges ahead
of delivering those innovative and cutting-edge services at
better
rates than prevail in what is often touted to be the most
expensive
telecom zone in the World.
